ISTDの学生アセスメント課題への提出作品。近年における『マイルストーン』を探求する冊子のデザイン。私が選んだマイルストーンは『準信頼性のあるニューラル機械翻訳の発展』であり、日本に暮らす言語学習者の視点からアプローチしました。

A response to the ISTD student assessment brief: Design a publication that explores a recent Milestone. My chosen milestone was the development of semi-reliable neural machine translation, from the perspective of a language learner living in Japan.

この冊子では、言語学習ツールの変遷を紐解きながら、それらのツールを用いて新しい言語を習得するプロセスそのものを表現しています。日本語学習者が文章を読み、翻訳する際にかかる労力を疑似体験してもらうため、テキストをあえて重ね合わせたり、二つの言語を混在させたりする視覚的アプローチを取り入れました。

The publication explores the timeline of language learning tools, and uses them to communicate the experience of acquiring a new language. This was achieved through overlapping text and intermingling the two languages to simulate the labour of reading and translating as a Japanese language learner.
